Piaget Automatic 18k Rose Gold ref. 11710 (1958)

In the late 1950s, a solid gold automatic with a date was about as complete as a dress watch could get, and this Piaget has all three in a very compact package.

Inside is the Felsa 694, from the Bidynator family. Felsa was the first to make bidirectional automatic winding work reliably, and this system was used by many Swiss houses. In those years, even Breguet used the same movement for some of their watches.

The case is 34mm of solid rose gold, heavy on the wrist and unpolished, with full lugs and sharp edges. The dial has aged into a soft, creamy tone that sits very well against the warm gold, matched by the rose hands and applied markers.
