We are proud to offer an iconic watch for sale: the Omega Speedmaster 145.022-69 “Straight Writing” is one of the most historically significant references in the entire Speedmaster lineage.
After the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, Omega began engraving a commemorative inscription on the caseback of this reference, and for the first time the now iconic words appeared: “The First Watch Worn on the Moon.” The text was laid out in straight horizontal lines rather than the curved arrangement found on all later Moonwatch casebacks, which is how the “Straight Writing” nickname was born among collectors, and why the reference commands the attention it does today.
Inside beats the solid and legendary caliber 861, the Lemania-based chronograph movement that had just replaced the caliber 321 with the preceding 145.022-68 reference and went on to power the Speedmaster line for decades. All components except the plexyglass on this example are original and period correct, from the stepped dial to the tachymeter bezel, hands, crown, pushers, and case. The watch appears unpolished and retains all its original geometries.
A special reference ready to be worn by a Speedmaster lover at a fraction of how much Omega is asking for new pieces, with way more character and historical significance.
Together with the purchase, you receive a one-year warranty and a Timegrapher report. This document shows the amplitude, rate, and beat error, proof of its mechanical health.
